My Students

A typical day in my classroom is filled with excitement and imaginative adventures through the words of authors. My students and I often in the character’s shoes and enjoying the plot just as the characters are. My students love books that capture their attention and help them learn.

I teach in an Integrated Collaborative Classroom in Jamaica, Queens.

In my class, 35% of the students are special education and the other 65% are general education students. I work with a wonderful special education co-teacher and our students are sweet, kind, hard working, and of a diverse background. Our students come from wonderful, but humble families, and we must provide the children with the resources needed to be successful in school. We need your help!

My Project

We are moving up to fourth grade with the same students and we are in desperate need of new books for our classroom library. Each student is given a book baggie and have at least 5 books in their possession at all times. They read books from our classroom library in class, and at home, and exchange their books regularly. They love to read and have read almost all of the books available in our current classroom library. Moving to fourth grade with the same students is beneficial because we know our student’s capabilities and we can continue to push them to the next level. We strive to foster a love of reading and creating excitement is imperative in this process. Our students are studious and incredibly inquisitive! They love to read fiction, non fiction, biographies, poetry, and any other genre they can get their hands on.

Donations to this project will allow the students in my class to continue embarking on such imaginative adventures.

It will also foster a love of books and learning. It will water the seed planted in 3rd grade to help it flourish into 4th grade.
