My Students

I am the librarian for two elementary schools, both filled with creative, fun kids who like to read. This year, all students need to deliver a book talk and share a fact as part of my library class expectations. And this year, the kids have discovered the Weird But True books as a prime source of strange and unexpected information.

They are so enthusiastic about these books that the copies I have in our libraries have very long hold lists and are starting to fall apart.

Like our Guinness World Record and Ripley's Believe it or Not collections, these books appeal to my students’ love of strange and unexpected information.

My Project

The Weird But True series uses the "Did you know?" and "Yuck!" approach that my kids love while teaching them facts that they can share with their classes as part of their library assignments.

How else will they learn that “Ancient Mayan warriors hurled containers full of hornets at enemies” or “Nepal is the only country in the world that doesn’t have a rectangular flag” or “Up until 100 years ago, some toothbrush bristles were made from pig hairs” or “Canned tuna is one of the most popular pizza toppings in Germany”?

Don’t you kind of want to read the books now too?
