Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Upon entering the art room the other day, one of my students saw the supplies I had assembled and said, "I'm not sure what we're going to be doing today, but I know it's going to be fun." The best learning happens when students are engaged in something challenging and fun. When students create two and three dimensional artworks from their imaginations, sculpting with clay, painting, drawing and printmaking they experience the kind of challenge that supports their intellectual growth and achievement.

Our Pre-K to 4th grade elementary school is located in an ethnically diverse, low income, inner city neighborhood in the Northeast.

Many of my students are very talented, but families can't afford private art lessons and art-camp in the summer. To be artistically successful, our students need a top notch, public school, art education program.

Professional tools like this document camera will give our students an educational experience that can change their lives, and their outlook on life!

My Project

Art making demonstrations can be problematic. Gathering young students around for a close-up demo can be disruptive; keeping students seated means some students may miss seeing important details. With a document camera, all students will see my art making demonstration close-up, enlarged on the interactive whiteboard, no matter where they are seated.

I plan to use the document camera to record my demonstrations and to replay them as I circulate around the classroom checking student progress.

Thanks to this donation, I can literally be in two places at once! Also, students who were absent will be able to independently view demonstrations from previous classes freeing me to continue with the current lesson.

Critique is an important part of art education; the document camera will allow classmates to see and participate when a student presents artwork for class discussion. I also plan to have students take turns using the document camera for student-led demonstrations and presentations.
