My Students

Many of my students are first generation immigrants from around the world. They believe strongly in the value of a good education and try their best every day in my school. They want to be readers and know that being a good reader is important for success in life.

This year I have been astonished by the reading community we have managed to build together with very little resources.

With your help, our reading community with continue to grow by placing engaging texts in my class library and into the hands of my students.

My Project

Please support my project to bring multicultural literature to my multicultural classroom. My students deserve to have access to a "just right" book that engages them not just on their Lexile level, but also by being a cover that looks "just like me!"

This project would give me the books and the baskets I need to support our growing reading community.

Every book seller will tell you that a book cover is what truly sells a book. By placing these books in baskets, my students can flip through the books by genre instead of reading the spine of the book.

I have asked for two copies of each high interest book. During independent reading, students will use these books to read, write and discuss their chosen book with a partner. While students are engaged in these activities, I will conference with students about their reading to ensure growth and accountability.
