My Students

My K-to-5 elementary school is in Bronx, New York. The students come from low income families and are disadvantaged.

Our school lunch program serves 98% of our total students.

The population is 95% Hispanic with the remainder African American and Asian Pacific.

Most of our students have no access to computers or any other technology. We have implemented a STEAM program which includes computer science at the school giving them access to computers and various creative materials at least two times a week.

We want to make it easier for our students to complete programming projects by completing them in a flexible seating classroom.

My Project

In our population of students, there are a some students that need special accommodations when sitting to ensure that they focus on their studies. They fidget, move up and down and spin in their chairs while the teacher is presenting a mini-lesson. If they have the cushions to put on their chairs, it will allow them to move while still sitting and completing their studies. The cushions can be used on rugs in the classroom for the same purpose. We would be grateful for any donations which would help. our special needs kids be successful now and in the future.
