Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kindergarten is fun and lays the foundation for the rest of a child's educational career.

I work as a Kindergarten ICT (Integrative Collaborative Team) teacher in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

My 25 students are a mixture of, both, Special Ed and General Ed students. Most of my students are of Latino descent and are English Language Learners. My children do not have it easy. Many of their parents do not speak English, they come from foster homes, and some do not even know when or where their next meal is coming from. It is a wonder to me that they come to school every single day with smiles on their faces, ready and willing to learn. My students have so much potential to excel in school and beyond, but they do not have the proper tools and materials in order to do so.

My Project

My students need Elephant and Piggie and Pigeon book sets, book baggies, and markers to help increase my students' reading ability and creative side. The books will spark an interest for reading, which is what every teacher and parent hopes for. Reading will also encourage my students to want to learn about other things as well. The book baggies will help keep the books in good condition. This will also make sure that my students have a special place in which to keep their books. The markers will be used throughout the day in my classroom. The markers will encourage my students to write and illustrate their stories. They will also be able to write and create posters about their favorite books.

I believe that with the help of these supplies, my students will excel in many subjects and be able to read and write on grade level, while continuing to foster their creative side.
