My Project

I would say the thing I love most about my students is their resilience. Most children who live in Appalachia face poverty every day. The students I encounter here in Southeastern Kentucky see the worst of it. Many are being raised by grandparents and do not have access to the luxuries most take for granted. The students do not let these issues stop them from coming to school and being ready to learn. They are the most deserving of the special items.

The items I have requested, such as the snowcone machine and the foam machine, will allow the students to have fun rewards to work hard for.

Most students have never had the opportunity to experience something such as a foam maker. The disc golf set I have requested will promote physical education and give the students a chance to experience something unavailable to them in this area. This also aids in them being open to trying new activities. The dry erase boards I have requested will be a fun addition to the classroom by giving the students an exciting outlet to work on topics.

My goals for this project are to expand the students horizons, to promote learning in fun ways, and to give back to the children who deserve it most. As previously mentioned, the students I work with are faced with hardships at a very young age. Many of them have to grow up way too soon. With this project, they will have the opportunity to play and be a kid. It also allows them to experience new activities that they never before have.
