This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is full of future mathematicians and scientists. We need more math supplies so that each child will be able to practice what they are learning. I hope these supplies will excite my students and encourage them to stay in school and pursue careers in math and science.

My students are wonderful second graders.

Our school is located in a high poverty immigrant community in California. The parents of most of my students have never finished high school, and my students will hopefully be the first ones in their families to go to college. My classroom consists primarily of students who are learning English as a second language. I also mainstream autistic and learning disabled students in my all inclusive classroom.

My Project

These graphing math supplies will enable my students to get real experience and hands-on practice as they work to master the 2nd grade graphing math standards.

I will start this project by reading "The Great Graph Contest" to my students to introduce them to our graphing unit in math.

They will learn about why we use graphs and also about the different types of graphs we will be learning about in their math books.

The two floor graphing mats will allow my students to visually and physically understand how to make and read graphs. The graphing pocket chart, the graph paper, the stickers, and the dinosaur cut-outs will be used to create exciting graphs that go along with our science units on animals and dinosaurs. The fruit stickers will go along with our healthy eating unit.

One of the best things about these resources is that most of these math tools will be able to be used every year so hundreds of my future students will also benefit from this project.

My students love math and science!

I try to make my lessons exciting by bringing their lessons to life so all students can be exposed to the curriculum. This project is important because it will allow my students to be able to practice the math skills they are learning. I hope this project helps my students become confident and excel in math. This project will make a difference because it will positively influence many of these students to stay in school and pursue careers in math and science.
