Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title I elementary school located in New York City. Every Friday the students are excited to build a healthy lifestyle thanks to Rising New York Road Runners running team. While fostering a healthy lifestyle, these children are also learning the importance of camaraderie.
The Rising Road Runners love to plays games which help to improve their balance, agility, and overall body movements.
These students choose to take time every Friday to learn more about physical literacy. Sharing the joy of running with these children encourages them to develop a passion for health and wellness that will stick with them throughout their youth and into adulthood.
My Project
The Rising Road Runners will be able to improve their balance, speed, and agility with speed ladders, balancing blocks, hurdles, and cones. By using this equipment in an obstacle course, the Rising Runners will improve their skills while having a blast! With these tools, I will be able to help my runners to build the foundation for a healthy lifestyle. They will also be prepared to play any sports they want as they get older!
Aside from improving their track skills, I also teach my team how to lead a healthy life overall.
We all know how important it is to stay hydrated, providing students with reusable water bottles will promote them to stay hydrated throughout the day and especially at practice.
