Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a diverse community of learners ranging from non-English speakers to native English speakers. A large majority of my students come from the China-town borough of Philadelphia, and for some, this is their first time in the United States learning! Those who aren't from China-town, are from the surrounding South Philadelphia area, and we also have a couple of homeless shelters in our catchment, which students often live at as well. My students get to learn in an inclusive and welcoming environment with a great parent support group.

My Project

I use a variety of methods in our gym class to keep the students engaged and moving. These past few years have been tough on our kids, with some of our equipment getting lost or stolen while we were online learning due to COVID, and some of it just rotted in the closet from lack of use.

With new equipment, we can assure that our students are able to safely play and learn without any problems.

New basketballs, new volleyballs, new pool noodles, and other items are all things students of all grades use on a daily basis. And currently ours are falling apart!
