My Project

My students live in a rural area in Upper Michigan. We are a high poverty school district and one hundred percent of the students are able receive free breakfast and lunch. While our district passed a millage rate to update the technology in our buildings a couple of years ago; we slashed our spending to balance our budget.

As an English teacher, I strive to tap into my students' creativity.

We create visuals for presentations, design comic strips, use our own photography and art work for videos, craft poetry, and keep writers' notebooks. . I find that having a well stocked classroom with a variety of art supplies helps spark their creativity. I have a many students with special needs who struggle with written expression but often can reflect on literature and classroom themes using drawings, flow charts, and other modes of visual expression.
