This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We run an experiential internship that focuses on exposing students to various organizations and experiences across the city. Our students are a blend of artsy and eclectic young people who have been developing their curiosity and following their interests on a journey of self discovery. We connected with an organization that introduced a myriad of skills including sewing. Sewing brought our students to life and has captivated them in a way that must be nurtured. Please help us get a collection of heavy duty sewing machines for our young people.

Students have sewn their own tote bags, and clothing.

They've learned how to repair damaged clothing and even change the size of the waistband on their jeans. They have expressed interest in furthering their sewing skills and would like to continue this work in school.
