Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in or around East Harlem, New York. They are strong, vibrant, resilient young adults that are doing their best to navigate their disabilities during this global pandemic.

While growing up with learning disabilities is a challenge in itself, COVID-19 and remote learning have complicated things for my student population to levels that are beyond frustration.

Many of our families have been impacted by COVID-19 in ways that have severely complicated their lives. At Innovation HS, we use a Positive Behavior Intervention System where students are rewarded for things like achieving academic progress, fulfilling our schools core values including activism and collaboration. Now more than ever, our students could benefit from the means to acquire basic necessities that are a financial struggle for their families.

My Project

As we all know, COVID- 19 has impacted society in various ways. For my students, whom are living in New York City, COVID-19 has created hardships in addition to the challenges they were already experiencing.

Many of our students families have lost their jobs and income from COVID.

Our students are doing their best to support their families by taking on extra responsibilities in the household such as caring for siblings, cooking, etc. all while still fulfilling academic responsibilities.

Our students and families could greatly benefit from Warm Winter Clothing and healthy snacks to sustain them during the school day!
