My Students

I have the great privilege of working with vibrant, curious, and excited 3-4-year-old students in an urban Brooklyn school. They are quick to ask questions, participate, and jump in to explore and discover. This is their very first year of school, and I love to set their expectations high. They will learn to discover, explore with confidence, and develop a lifetime love of learning. Through positive experiences today, we can encourage their ambitions for great learning, discovery, and school experiences, all the way into adulthood!

My Project

The COVID-19 Pandemic took a lot from us. It took even more from children. The fun and interactive time of learning and playing with school friends have been replaced with social distancing, avoiding close contact, and keeping away from others. This has been especially difficult for young children who learn from touch and are comforted by hugs and high fives. To prevent the spread of this dangerous virus, schools have removed comfy rugs from classrooms and separated children's chairs 6 feet apart. This was an important and necessary safety step, but still, made it difficult for young children to learn.

Children need to be at ease to focus, learn and interact at safe distances from others and these colorful cushions allow the best of both worlds (safe distancing and happy comfort).

Sitting on a cold hard chair across the room from their teacher removes the connection between students and between students and their teacher. The cushions and colorful teacher chair requested in this proposal will allow children to safely distance themselves from each other in our learning area, while still interacting with each other and me, their teacher. I will be able to sit at a safe distance and keep their attention to great stories and activities, in a colorful chair distanced from the children by height.

Your generosity will not only help prevent the spread of this dangerous virus but will also allow children to get back to some normalcy in their education and their lives with each other. Thank you for caring and loving kids enough to donate.
