My Students

I am a special education teacher in an inclusion Pre K class in Brooklyn, New York. For many of our children, this is their first school experience, and it is vital to me that it is a safe, healthy, exciting, and stimulating environment for them.

Many of our students receive related services, as part of their IEP mandate, including speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy, counseling.

Our students come to us from varied backgrounds, cultures, religions, and life experiences.

Pre K children learn best by using their imagination and hands.

We like to do active, exciting hands-on work and activities to encourage discussions, discovery, vocabulary, and keep the children engaged. Working with partners and groups, students learn to problem solve and be part of a team.

By integrating typically developing children and children with special needs, we create a learning environment that builds empathy and tolerance, while remaining engaging and stimulating, and allows us to recognize and appreciate each other's strengths and areas of need.

My Project

These are unprecedented times. For many of my Pre K students, this will be their first time in school. Families are understandably concerned and anxious. I would love to be able to alleviate some anxiety and fear by assuring them we have an air filter in the classroom, which has been proven to reduce airborne bacteria and viruses, creating a healthy classroom.

My students' families are an integral part of the school experience.

By trusting that their child's teacher is doing everything possible to keep their child safe and healthy during this time of CoVid, and thus able to learn in the classroom, I hope to build a strong foundational relationship with all of my students' families.
