My Project

When we have a common goal or interest, our conflicts, polarized ideas, and discord seem to disappear. This is true for children too. Our project encompasses many ways for kids to learn and practice compassion. The books we read together will help them see the world through the eyes of others with different abilities, cultures, ethnicities and mindsets. Books like "My Body Sends A Signal" and 'No Body Is The Same" help children respect and embrace their diversity and include others with different types of bodies, features and physical abilities. Books like Tiny Drops of Kindness and the Ninja Activity Book of Social Skills" will let me model and teach children how to act kindly, react, and interact with kind and compassionate social skills we learn and practice. They will have fun examples of how to calm themselves, make great social emotional choices, and how to be kind. The hands-on materials will help them play together while working on projects, chatting, and sharing ideas. They won't even realize that they are growing together in compassion and inclusivity because they are having so much fun! I will measure the success of this project by witnessing compassion practiced all over our class, as children play, interact with and support each other.

Having fun stories and messy hands-on creative materials like play-doh tools and kinetic sand encourages kids to spend time creating together, observing, discussing and appreciating their individuality, while compassionately learning about each other through their fine motor masterpieces and from examples in our books.

By funding this project, we will be teaching children to work together, understand and appreciate each other in age-appropriate ways. You will be cultivating a better world of caring, compassionate people, one child at a time.
