Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our 7th graders in Whitman advisory love to read! They are an incredibly resilient and curious group of young people who have been through so much since the start of the pandemic. They have been in a virtual learning setting since August and will remain virtual until the end of the school year due to the spread of Covid19 in our area. Our students have been reading about current events during our reading intervention time, but have expressed wanting to read a novel together as a class. They love the idea of having their discussions about the book be in the form of a book club!

My Project

Ms. Mahoney and Ms. Body's students voted on the book, New Kid, about a boy who has to start over at a new school where diversity is low and the struggle to fit in is real. They would love to have an actual copy of the book that they can hold and read from during our class. Our students deserve the world and even though we will remain virtual for the year, their spirits would be lifted and even more motivated to learn! Thank you for any support for this project! We appreciate you!
