This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine trying to learn violin with an instrument that is barely working. Would you think that bad sound is your fault? In spite of these challenges, students here are still working hard to make music. With your help, we could sound amazing! The new materials would be inspirational.

We are a music department of 150 students in an economically challenged area.

Students get their first music experience here in 6th grade and continue through until 8th grade and high school. We have three classes of band and three classes of Mariachi.

My Project

Without this funding, we will soon not have any working bows to make music with. We have been using instruments that are 20+ years old. Since we have no budget for these instruments, students are using bows that are breaking in front of my eyes. I now have a bow graveyard in my room and I'm afraid we'll get to the point where I don't have enough for the students to play on. These bows will be used every day in class and in all of our concerts. By replacing 20 of our violin bows, our students will be able to make more sound on their instruments, and will feel more confident about their playing. Not only will this be a great boost for morale, but it is an item that we will be able to use over and over again for many years. With new bows, the students will not only be assured of years of good playing, but they will also sounds twice as loud too!

With new bows, we will ensure that our program will have the supplies needed for years to come.

Students will have a working part of their instrument to use and make music with. Please help!
