This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As of 2023 all of our stools in the science department should be retired. We struggle with stools that break because of overuse, scholars who have chronic pain from said stools (hence future scientists in need of chiropractors), and the lack of interest in highly engaging lessons due to the uncomfortable stools. Our plan is to change the stools for more comfy chairs and yield a higher success rate as students are excited to stay and be in their science classes. ACHS, a Title I school in East San Jose, CA, is in need of new lab stools for three science classrooms. Students are currently sitting on flat stools with no back support. These seats are uncomfortable and an ergonomic nightmare for many students. When the students are uncomfortable they are not in a frame of mind to learn in the classroom. Which is why the science department at our high school is fundraising through Donors Choose.
