Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I co-lead an inclusion mixed Pre-K 3/4 class in downtown D.C. We want to make sure our classroom is a warm, safe space where students feel engaged and ready to learn. A big part of that is making sure that we are supporting them not just in academics but socially-emotionally as well. This is especially important for our students with SLI and Autism who may have a harder time expressing their feelings in ways that are safe for themselves and others.

The items we buy would go in our classroom cozy corner to help student learn to self soothe and express their emotions.

The items would help them calm down and give them different sensory options whether it's taking deep breaths watching the lava drip in the sensory bottles or giving the fuzzy ball a big squeeze. The emotions books would also live in the cozy corner so students could use the books to help them name their emotions.
