Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a public kindergarten through eighth grade public school in a high poverty urban community in New Jersey. They love music class and are great musicians. Even though we don't have a budget for new materials, we find creative ways to make music together.

My students love stories that combine their visual and musical interests.

Thanks to DonorsChoose, our music classroom library is a great way for students to learn about musicians from all over the world. Contributing to our music library will help them explore the world of music even more.

My Project

These materials will expose my students to songs, illustrations, and messages from all over the world. They will be able to learn songs such as "One Love" by Bob Marley and "Octopus's Garden" by the Beatles while viewing beautiful illustrations. They will have the opportunity to interpret "Carnival of the Animals" and Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" while listening to recordings of these compositions while seeing visual representations.

It is often difficult to keep the attention of these young learners and I know that new books and CDs will go a long way in capturing their interest and sustaining a love of music.
