This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As we approach the end of another school year, I have come to realize how important it is for students to feel comfortable in their own classroom.

I teach in a second grade inclusion classroom in a high poverty area in the Bronx, New York, where, for most of my students, school is the only place where they have the opportunity to read and learn.

I want students to enjoy reading as much as possible.

My Project

I want to add a few bean bag chairs to the classroom so students can feel comfortable, and make reading as enjoyable an experience as possible for them. Our pencil sharpener is also broken, and students have to go to another classroom every time they need to sharpen their pencils. A proper pencil sharpener that will last through the wear and tear of several school years will be beneficial to save time and keep student focused, since they will no longer have to leave the classroom when a pencil breaks.

We must do everything in our power to help students learn to love to read.

I feel that these chairs will also improve the overall image of the classroom, creating an increasingly comfortable environment. Please help make a difference! Thank you so much for your support of education!
