Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a new teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district in New York City , my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. I am currently working in a 4th grade integrated co-teaching classroom. The needs of our students vary and as educators we need to make sure we are able to meet all of their needs!

Our students are intelligent and have a love for learning!

Our students have high energy and they like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Our students face many challenges. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day.

My Project

The materials that I am requesting will greatly benefit the students in my 4th grade ICT classroom. The small bean table will help when I work with small groups to go over strategies and when they need extra support with a subject. It will also help when I am differentiating the lesson to the students. Instead of sitting on the floor, the students will have a table to go to!

The students will also greatly benefit from an easel. Have you ever tried to teach in a classroom without a chalkboard or easel? Since it is an ICT classroom, we teach in small groups often which means only 1 teacher can use the starboard. Without an easel to write on the students have trouble following along in the group. An easel will enhance the lessons for the small groups.
