My Project

I am a reading interventionist at my school. I work with students in grades K-5 who need the most support in learning to read. Many students are learning English; some have just moved to the United States. Additionally, some families are struggling financially, but all parents want their children to succeed!

My students are always eager and excited to come and read with me.

However, learning to read in a second (or third) language is challenging. Incorporating a sound wall will help them see and learn how to move their mouths to make the sounds to match the letters. Additionally, having diverse pictures of students' mouths is important so that my students can see more of themselves in the classroom. Having mirrors so students can actually see the ways their mouth, lips, and tongue move when making different sounds is a great way for them to learn sounds.

My ultimate goal as a reading interventionist is to work myself out of a job so that no student needs extra intervention and support. Having a sound wall is a step in this direction! =)
