Help My Students Overcome Their Challenges

Help me give my students the basic tools they need for their learning challenges and stress. My students deal with stress from academics, from poverty, and frequently from behaviors.

My Project

I am a Special Education Teacher who works in a high poverty area. Most years, I only have 1 or 2 students who have the basic materials they need for their classwork. That is why you are seeing things like highlighters, colored pencils, and crayons - we use them throughout the year.

In addition, many of my students struggle with stress around academics and emotions.

Some stressors are environmental such as food, housing, and family issues while others are from dealing with family dynamics or illnesses. I teach core classes, but I also teach how to deal with these life issues. Along with a safe, consistent classroom they need ways to help them cope with these issues. Items like the squishy stress balls, the bubble sheets (nice stress releasing popping), and the kinetic sand are ways to reduce emotions and be calm.

The heatable and coolable animal is for both physical and emotional things. It is calming and relieves some physical problems.

In addition, I have added a floor piano mat as music and movement can help many an antsy kid.

The bean bag filler is because over the years my bean bag has finally flattened but the cover is still good. Again, it is another way to help kids relax and focus.

These items are for our busy days - tools for learning everything from Language Arts to how to control your emotions in a positive way. The goal is for them to become happy, healthy, and productive members of our society. Every day, we work towards that goal.
