Help Mrs. Newman

Hello and thank you for reading my proposal. I teach third grade at a public school in Snellville, Georgia. My students are predominantly lower middle class. Our school is in an area that at one time was quite rural, but has grown tremendously in population over the past few years. Our school recently became a title 1 school.

I believe that teaching children compassion and respect for other living things is an extremely important task for parents and educators. Unfortunately, many children today are not taught this at home. In this modern and often violent society, too little time is spent on kindness and empathy. I would like to share this with my students.

The ASPCA selects children's books every year that teach respect and kindness towards the Earth and its animals. These special books are given the Henry Burgh award. I selected 23 books that were given this award to share with my students. These books range in topics from understanding your dog to saving the planet. I hope that sharing these books with my students will help to teach them respect and empathy for the natural world.

Please help me teach my students compassion and caring for living things. These books have been selected for their quality and important message and I do believe they will make a difference in the lives of my students and maybe in the future of the planet.
