This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I currently work as an occupational therapist in a low-income urban elementary school located in the Bronx. I provide occupational therapy services to students between the ages of 5-9 years old. Many of my students come from low economic backgrounds. I treat a wide range of disabilities, including ASD, learning disabilities, and physical disabilities. My students lack fine-motor coordination, and visual-motor skills, which affects their handwriting and cutting skills. Some of my students also suffer from poor coordination and grasp due to weakness in their hand-muscles. I try my best to provide my students with the resources and tools they need to help them thrive in school. My students are now learning remotely due to the Covid-19 pandemic, leaving many without the resources they need to work on their occupational therapy goals at home. And unfortunately, many of my students' families cannot afford to purchase basic tools to work on their occupational therapy goals remotely.

My Project

My hope for this project is to raise enough money to get workbooks, scissors, glue sticks, crayons, pencils, playdough, pencil grips, dry erase boards, hand fidgets, etc. These materials and tools will benefit 40 students who do not have what they need to participate in therapy while learning at home. The workbooks will help my students work on handwriting, coloring skills, and sequencing. Adding pencil grips will help my students practice holding the pencil correctly. Your generosity will help my students accomplish their occupational therapy goals, as well as help them thrive in and out of the classroom.
