This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are incredible learners with diverse abilities, each navigating their own unique challenges. They are bright, determined, and eager to engage, but many struggle with disabilities that impact emotional regulation, sensory processing, and focus. Transitions, unexpected changes, and sensory overload can be overwhelming, making it difficult for them to stay engaged in learning. To support their success, I want to create a Calming Corner—a dedicated space where they can self-regulate, manage their emotions, and return to learning feeling more in control and focused.

Providing my students with the right sensory and mindfulness tools is essential for their success.

The Mindfulness Breathing Light will help students with autism, ADHD, and anxiety develop calming breathing techniques, while the Emotions Coin Drop will support those with communication challenges in recognizing and expressing their feelings in a tangible way. The Changing Seasons Sensory Tubes will provide visual and tactile input to help students regulate when feeling overwhelmed, and the fidget toys will offer quiet, movement-based tools to improve focus and reduce frustration. The Calm Down Corner Kit will bring structure to the space, ensuring it is a supportive and effective environment for self-regulation.

My goal is to help my students develop lifelong emotional regulation skills that will support both their academic success and overall well-being. Each of my students learns in their own way and deserves a classroom that accommodates their needs. With these resources, they will have a safe, empowering space where they can develop self-soothing strategies, manage sensory input, and build the emotional resilience they need to thrive.
