My school has seen thirty plus years of teachers who have been unable to safely store our chemical supplies. I teach both AP chemistry and college chemistry courses at my school where I use chemicals on a weekly and sometimes daily basis. I love teaching and want only the best for my colleagues' and students' safety needs.

The hurdle that we face is that our supply of acids is slowly corroding a metal cabinet. I am not exaggerating when I say there is a half inch of rust flakes that have accumulated on each shelf level. With this much corrosion going on, the heavy acid bottles may break a shelf at some point. Despite this being a safety violation, it is something we cannot afford to replace. The cabinet has been reinforced in order to hold together, but it remains a definite safety hazard.

The solution to this dilemma is an acid cabinet. The proper labeling and special interior lining in the cabinet will allow us to keep the acids safe. With it, I can finally allow my lab aides (students who help prepare labs for me) to work with the acids. Its a wonderful opportunity for them because it gives them hands-on experience working on preparing solutions and making dilutions, which is an important skill when they go to college.

It is only with your help that I can ensure the safety of my school. I urge you to consider my project as a worthwhile and meaningful endeavor that can only be completed with your help. Safety has and always will be my top priority, but with this cabinet my hands are tied without the proper funding.
