Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students are interesting young people, many with creative dreams of being artists, actors, and musicians. I love to teach within the Visual and Performing Arts because I'm able to see first hand the many incredible talents my students possess. They really blow me away considering their age. My school has a great VPA program with a lot of opportunities for creative expression. But my classes are huge, each class nearing around 50 students. Altogether I teach around 300 students every two days. They have varying social-economic backgrounds and are incredibly culturally diverse coming from all over the world.
My Project
I would like my Gender and Sexuality Alliance to have the chance to participate in a Pop-up Mural experience with the artist group Unconventional. This project brings in professional local artists who create a design that relates to our club, the design is painted only in outlines, and then works as a paint-by-number interactive mural which my students will fill in along with the artists. This would be a great collaborative experience for the members in the GSA. We will hold a mural unveiling party inviting important members of the LGBTQ+ community in Miami and organizations who have supported our club. It's a great way to have fun but also allow the GSA to participate and share with their school and local arts and LGBTQ+ community.
