This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As I strive to motivate my students to read music, I know that I must provide them with the resources necessary to read in a proper manner. New folders will prepare my young singers for college, which is where I hope they will continue their musical studies.

My students come from low-income families and are usually residing in project housing in the close vicinity of our school's neighborhood.

My public middle/high school offers many opportunities to keep students learning and engaged; I hope this fully-funded project continues to do so.

My Project

My students need 53 choral singers' folders to use when they are reading music and preparing for contest season! My kids are sometimes stuck in a cycle of aural learning, and getting them to read English, Spanish or Music is not easy. As I encourage my students to read music, I know that down the road they'll thank me greatly, but as students who have not been pushed at home or school, getting them to read music is especially challenging. After all, it's much easier for them to learn by rote than to actually read.

I put my faith in my ability to get through to students every year.

I love watching kids say "Oh, I get it!" while we're reading music. It's never the first time, but the tenth, twentieth, or fiftieth time that make it worthwhile!
