Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every child deserves a champion – an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.

All my students are multicultural students.

For most, English is not their first language. Despite all of their challenges, my students love to be in school. They all try their best. Most of my students do not receive the same support at home as they do in school. The most important job I have as an educator is to ensure my students are really learning.

My Project

My classroom is in dire need of a new rug. I have tiled flooring in my classroom and I had purchased an inexpensive rug for my students to sit on during whole group lessons. The rug I have purchased is starting to fall apart because it is cheaply made. I have a growing number of students in my classroom (currently twenty-three), and only about twelve of them can comfortably sit on the rug; most are stuck sitting on the floor. Having a nice, large, classroom rug would benefit my students in a huge way. I do all of my whole group teaching at my board with the students on the rug. I feel terrible that they cannot all fit and are uncomfortable. I also feel terrible that I can not afford a large, classroom-appropriate rug because they can be expensive and out of my budget.

My students deserve the best.

Most of them come from low-income homes. When they are in my classroom, I want them to feel taken care of and comfortable. Having a new rug will make learning and teaching so much easier!
