This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in the southwestern part of Houston and serves kids from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade. We are a neighborhood school and a community in the truest sense of the word. We work very closely with our kids and their families to put them on the path to success. We are a diverse place in many ways and I am very fortunate to teach such a wonderful group of kids.

I have been incredibly fortunate to get support for projects in the past and the resources your generosity has purchased has helped my students use their imagination and go everywhere from Mount Olympus to Manassas, Virginia.

My Project

I am excited to be returning for another great school year! I taught summer school this year with 1:1 technology thanks to your previous donations and was able to do some really incredible things. If you are one of my friends, family, or even complete strangers who helped purchase Chromebooks for my classroom - thank you! You allowed students to explore famous landmarks through Google Earth, practice teamwork and review vocabulary through online games, and focus on working at their own pace.

This year I am trying to reintroduce Junior Scholastic magazine to my classroom so my students can stay apprised of current events.

Junior Scholastic was previously provided through a literacy initiative but was not available last year. It is a wonderful magazine that allows students to learn about news with grade level appropriate stories, sharp graphic design, and even some debate through pro-con essays.

I'd love to be able to use the magazine in class again. It works especially great for days when students have the option to read a social studies book/magazine of their choice, testing days, or when kids just finish their work early.
