This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

"Art first lets us see what is possible" -Dr. Bettina Love.

I am a high school history teacher and I have witnessed how art can transform the educational experience of students.

Growing up, history was always my favorite subject. As a history teacher, I find that is even more important to infuse history lessons with projects.

To break up the monotony of reading and writing, I incorporate art in my curriculum. I started using clay in history classes a few years ago and I want to make it a permanent fixture at my school. I would also like to have the option to fire student clay work that is made in my classes. Students who have done my clay projects in the past have said how at peace they feel when working with clay. They have said it causes them to stop, think, and be intentional about what they make. Others have said, working with clay allows them to relax their minds.

Starting this school year, I would like to get a kiln and supplies to start a ceramics club at my school. Please join me in making this ceramics club a possibility.
