Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Children of immigrant families are the population that I proudly serve. My students come from all over the world: Puerto Rico, Mexico, El Salvador, Yemen, Honduras, China, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic and more. My classroom is basically a reflection of the United States. Through my lessons, I want to show my children the world. Being poor, having a learning disability, learning English, and being behind, academically, should not hinder learning.

I work with a variety of English Language Learners and students with disabilities in grades 5-8.

They are future explorers, linguists, actors, engineers, comedians, teachers, lawyers and more! I try my best to expose them to a multitude of knowledge in my little classroom in Brooklyn, NY. In our little village, my students are able to use their language, culture, and spunk as a tool.

My Project

Many of the English Language Learners in my class have a difficult time adjusting to their new surroundings. By having and using a laptop and/or tablet, they are able to keep up with the class. They will be able to immediately translate unknown words, define them, have access to an immediate visual/example and be able to search for background knowledge.

Currently, my students use an outdated Spanish/English dictionary and/or have to ask a neighboring student whenever they need help.

I want them to be able to work independently and to have immediate access to the information they need. Technology is a need for my ELLs.
