This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What is 8 times 4? How about 5 times 9? Do you remember your math teacher asking these questions and you pleading that she did not call on you? This is the feeling many students still have today when it comes to multiplication facts.

I am a gifted education teacher in a suburban school right outside of Atlanta with a high population of low socioeconomic students.

Currently I am teaching an Innovative Model Math class to gifted students in third grade. The purpose of this class is to challenge and enrich these students using a variety of manupulatives, literature, and technology.

My Project

Many have the perception that just because a student is considered gifted, they should not be struggling with "simple math facts." This could not be further from the truth. Although my students are in a gifted math class, many of my students still find themselves struggling to remember multiplication and division facts. This makes it more difficult for them to complete enrichment and challenge activities provided to them. Having access to these Math Shark devices will allow my students extra opportunities to practice their multiplication, division, decimals, fractions, and percentages. The wonderful thing about these devices is that the practice drills are leveled according to the students' strengths and weaknesses. This allows students to feel successful and giving them the self confidence to succeed in math. These devices will also give my students the opportunity to integrate the use of technology into their academics.

I want my students to have access to the best tools possible in order to reach their full academic potential.

I believe having access to these devices will help boost their self esteem and build excitement and knowledge that will help them throughout their lives.
