Hogwarts here we come! I am so excited our school is going with a Harry Potter Theme this year. I'm afraid I went a little "Hogwarts Wild" and have already spent quite a bit on classroom decor and sorcery. I find myself still needing many of the much needed functional items to help my classroom run efficiently and help learning happen!
New much needed supplies like pencil & crayon sharpeners, extra staplers for group projects, student whiteboard erasers, hole punch for student progress folders, class chimes, desk spots, and book displays will all help things to run more smoothly and efficiently.
Individual Magnetic ten frame boards and number lines will help my kindergartners engage in math and gain a deeper understanding of numbers & adding and subtracting within 10. Owl pencil grips and 'Spacemen' make writing mechanics more engaging and exciting. Individual flip charts help to quickly notice which students are struggling and need help.
Along with the functional, each week I have a "pencil fairy" that comes to sharpen their pencils and puts a little prize in their pencil bag if their pencils are all present. This year I am excited to give each student their own little box to keep their special prizes in. I have also found that a sticker on the top of an assignment is a great motivator that boosts confidence and excitement over what sticker they might get. My students feel special and included when we celebrate their birthdays, holidays and other milestones with brand new prizes and a variety of incentives to choose from.
Combining the practical with the "magical" will allow my students to have an exciting, fun, hands on, classroom learning experience that will promote a love for learning they will carry with them throughout their educational journey.
