My Project

My students come from a poverty-stricken area, so many of them are reading below grade level. Many come from households that do not contain any type of books for reading, but that hasn't stopped my students from learning; they still want to learn even through their circumstances. Many of them lack the resources at home needed to make sure they can increase their reading levels as well as their vocabulary levels.

Even though they lack access to books at home, my students still come to school wanting to be successful on a daily basis.

This goes to show that my students are hard workers, and they use the little resources that they have to continue their education. I have always instilled in them that no matter the circumstances, continue to work hard at their education because it will take them far.

Many of my students have been motivated lately to read books in my classroom. Many feel that the books in the classroom library are engaging, and they can relate to the topics or characters in the books. At a young age, reading is extremely important in the development of a child's vocabulary. This is why I want to continue to add more engaging books to my classroom library to help my students continue to become Independent Readers during their free time.

My students need to and want to read books that contain characters that look like them and deal with issues they can relate to. These books would be a great addition to the classroom library and will motivate my students to read more inside and outside the classroom. The students would be able to have something to read while participating in Independent Reading time or while at home reading if they check out a book.
