My Project

I am a school counselor in an inner city school that sits in the middle of low income housing. My students have really felt the impact of the last three years with COVID. In my third and fourth grade classrooms, 8-11 students per class have lost a loved one over the past three years. That is a lot of loss for children that are just in elementary school.

Each school year I encounter students that have lost their parent(s) to incarceration, murder, suicide and illness.

The last three years have proved to be even more challenging to my students. Despite all of the challenges that my students face, they still come to school with a smile on their face ready for today's challenges!
