My Students

This is my third year at my school. My students come from a challenging environment, but they come to school with such love in their hearts and an eagerness to learn. They have been appreciative of the changes I’ve made to our music classroom in regard to spacing and decorations and are affected positively by the environment. These students have worked hard the last few years and changed their “priority” school into a reward school. I think they deserve the best of everything!

My Project

I have been slowly transitioning my music room into something more modern with LED lights and items that capture students' attention. The aesthetic changes have made a big impact on the students' desire to learn. They feel like they are in a special place which gives coming to music class an air of excitement and stimulates their curiosity and interest. This motivates them to pay attention and strive to participate and learn. My school is at a 98% poverty level. Oftentimes, schools like ours don't have access to the nicer things that other schools do. I want my kids to be proud of their room and proud of their musical abilities. The music staff whiteboards will help students make better musical connections by involving the tactile experience. Musical literacy is one of our top goals.
