My Students

This section asks me to describe what makes my students and our classroom so special and I don't even know where to begin. I teach an amazing, diverse group of fifth graders in El Cajon, CA. My students come from different backgrounds and cultures. Some of my students are refugees from the Middle East, while some of my students are attending the same school their parents and grandparents attended years ago.

No matter our backgrounds, we all have one thing in common, we love our classroom community.

Our classroom has become a special, safe place for all of us, the teacher included! We have built a community within four walls and we enjoy learning and growing together.

My Project

The Get Your Teach On community of teachers is nationwide and this year they are hosting their national conference in San Diego. Not only does this conference provide tools to make you a more effective teacher, but it also focuses on empowering and uplifting teachers.

The conference is described as "educational magic" and promises that teachers will leave feeling empowered, motivated and prepared to create lessons for their own classrooms.

As a newer teacher, this excites me! A lot of what I do in the classroom are things that I have come up with or developed on my own and tailored to my own students. I can't wait to get ideas from teachers who have been doing this successfully for much longer than I have!

I feel that by attending this conference, I will gain more knowledge and resources to help me engage the diverse group of students I have in my classroom each year. Teaching is constantly changing and it is vital that teachers learn different tricks to reach their students in the classroom.
