My Students

Do you remember how difficult it was to pay attention in school, especially sitting on the cold, hard floor? The students in my class struggle with this daily in greater ways due to their disabilities.

My students are first graders that have been identified as having a disability.

This impacts their ability to sit in a regular chair or on the carpet. They rely on sensory input to help them focus even for short amounts of time. Although school has been in session since August, we have only been a class together since the beginning of December. Due to budget issues, it is difficult to get the "extras" that children require to be successful.

My Project

If our class receives the cube chairs and cushions, the children will be able to sit comfortably and participate in classroom lessons. The use of cube chairs provides sensory input to the child to help them feel their place in our classroom instead of laying on the ground searching for that feeling. This will help them pay attention to my directed lessons and participate in oral language activities, requiring them to listen and pay attention to each other.

The use of cube chairs and cushions will provide attentive time for the children that is needed to acquire the necessary skills to reach first grade standards and their IEP goals.

I will be able to maintain eye contact and see if the information is successfully being received by each student. I want them to be as successful as possible in our classroom.
