Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in Washington Heights, New York City. My school is a Title One school, and most of my students will be first-generation college students. They inspire me every day and I want to give them the world. Access to high-quality materials is a huge barrier for us and for them, and I want to work to give them the high-quality resources they deserve.

My Project

I'm struggling to communicate with my students because, like most teachers, I'm using outdated technology. What makes it even more frustrating is that I'm teaching a new leadership course this year where juniors mentor freshmen all year long. It's a powerful program, but my students need to be able to create engaging content for the 9th graders and we don't have the resources. This IPad can travel from apartment to apartment each week for the student leaders to use to create high-quality graphics and teaching materials.

It's such a challenging time, and I am passionate about making sure this leadership course is as effective as it can possibly be, even though it's virtual.
