My Students

My students are discovering books, some for the very first time! Don't you like to get comfortable when you read a book by your favorite writer? I want my students to be able "curl up with a good book" too! Help make our library center a place that teaches students to value books.

I am a kindergarten teacher.

Some of my students come from homes with few if any, children's books. Some may be discovering books for the very first time. They love to hear the same books over and over again. They love to reread poems with pointers that we have memorized. They will pretend to read books that they have come to love. While they make these first attempts at reading, they will spread out on the hard tile floor or handmade throw pillows and look at books. I love to see my students with books in their hands.

My Project

I am requesting a rug, shelf and bean bags to make our class library center as inviting as possible. I want them to see that by showcasing books and providing them a comfortable place to read, books are an important part of the day. I want students to have the safe comfortable feeling that I can remember from childhood when reading my favorite books. How better to set the tone than providing a comfy, attractive class library?

I have spent my own money in years past to provide these items.

However, I have not been able to afford the highest quality of items. They have had to be replaced over the years to the best of my ability. I think these items would hold up so much better than what I have been able to provide.
