Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I serve in a Title One, priority middle school that services children from highest poverty with many being newly immigrated students. I teach eighth grade language arts to general education and inclusion classes.

Funding in Title One schools is extremely budgeted and often holes are made in places to fill in other places that are of a higher need.

I serve students from disadvantaged backgrounds that are in eighth grade, but are working at a fourth grade or below reading level. They are in need of intensive teacher support through the use of small group activities.

My Project

My students come from a variety of backgrounds and not all students do well with reading e-books. These book sets will help me to help students who need paper books to read better as an independent reader. Our old library is very outdated and beyond repair, with new materials students will be better motivated to work in improving their literacy skills and will have better engagement with materials that are more present-day and not books they have repeatedly read throughout school. These new book sets will help students who are struggling in my classroom.
