My Project

In order to make our classroom an inviting and comfortable place to learn, we need to provide flexible seating and a larger, more in-depth calming corner. To offer added flexible seating options, things like cushions, clipboards, pillows, chair fidget bands, and storage for these items are needed. These items will allow students to move about the classroom to complete their work in a way that suits their personal learning styles. The expansion of our current calming corner would include weighted stuffed animals, a cart to store items, and ink to print colored emotional regulation posters and worksheets. The calming corner is a place for students to visit when they need a break to regulate emotions before rejoining the class lesson.

Student well-being is key to learning and success in the classroom!

Students will be participating in "Soft Start" mornings several times each week, where they will have a chance to ease into their school day with educational games and activities, as well as a chance to have a snack if they didn't get breakfast or need additional food. Kids will choose from activities such as word games, drawing, jigsaw puzzles, Lego, and magnetic tiles. To foster comfort and happiness in our classroom these items will allow students to access curriculum in ways that work best for them while also engaging in relationship building, problem solving, and wellness strategies.

I am excited to see how focusing on student well-being will impact both success and relationships in our classroom this school year!
