I work in a very diverse high school in Maryland.

I have the privilege of working with students from all backgrounds (both socioeconomically and ethnically) in different levels of biology classes. This experience has helped me to cater my lessons to a wide range of learning styles and levels. At times, teaching to such a diverse classroom can be very challenging. However, I have noticed a trend in the feedback that I receive from my all of my students: they like playing games and they like when learning is fun. Many of my students feel as though school is boring, and they exert little to no effort. It is extremely rewarding to see these same students become engaged, interested, and excited when I integrate games into the classroom. I would like materials to help me to continue using this practice.

My Project

It is currently the end of the year, and as always, I asked for feedback from my students. On almost every paper I received back, the students had listed my review games as a positive in the classroom. The style of review game I use is as follows: -Students are broken into small groups and given a white board and marker. -Questions are projected on the board and the groups answer on their white boards. -A certain amount of time is given and then students raise their boards. Teams with the correct answers are rewarded points. The students LOVE the competitive feel of the game and I always see a sense of pride coming from the students when they know the answer! They all share that this is a very effective way to review for tests. The materials I am requesting would help me continue to include this game throughout the year. They will also allow me to group the students into groups of 2-3, which allows me to gage individual understanding more accurately than in larger groups

This year, I had very limited supplies to play the game.

This includes very worn whiteboards and a lack of markers and erasers. Due to this, the groups were larger than I would have liked and there were times when we couldn't play due to a lack of materials. I have requested 10 boards, markers, and erasers. This will allow me to group the students into groups of 2-3 and also to have plentiful supplies for the year.
