Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each student bring an abundance of inquisitive wonder to the classroom. Our investigative approach to learning often leads to new clarity as well as even deeper and more thought provoking questions. But what do we when our classroom can't provide what's needed to continue the learning adventure?

This group of second graders from the South Bronx is the most excited about learning I have ever met in my nine years in the teaching field!

When I look at them it is easy to forget that 95% of the students live below the Federal poverty line. They have a passion for learning and knowing how everything works! Whether through books or hands-on activities, the students are always on a quest for new knowledge. They often bring in to the classroom information from outside resources such as the public libraries when our classroom resources run out. They constantly ask if I can read this to the class or if may I share my findings with everyone else. These students work hard to know all they can with a goal to constantly strengthen their understanding of the world around them. They are intrinsic learners who not only want to understand the world, but someday become a powerful asset to improving it for us all.

My Project

My students need two tablets in class to support their reading and math center time. Support student learning through the use of interactive learning apps and websites daily! Though investigation, students share in the adventures of learning. Learning centers are key to success, but some questions cannot be reached within the classroom text books. My hope is to build stronger understanding and deepen student knowledge of content by advancing our classroom investigation learning style through safe and fun technology! Having students gain access to powerful learning applications and websites opens new learning experiences otherwise unreachable. Giving students the opportunity to take virtual visits to the aquarium that link to our investigation of penguins or inspiring students to advance their mastery of math through fun and challenging game play is key to classroom success. Each day during both ELA and Math, the tablets will be used as independent/buddy work stations. This means students will be asked to complete tasks, visit sites, work within certain applications that link to the learning standards we as a class are focused on.
