My Students

I have a diverse and amazing population of students who make my everyday "job" into an amazing learning journey. I am on that learning journey together with my 9th-12th graders.

Together, with the 110-ish students that I teach every day, we create a home in the four walls we inhabit.

My school works every day at nurturing the diverse interests of the amazing students we serve, despite the obstacles life throws at us.

Our district is a low SES district with more than 70% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Many students treat our school as home because the place they go to after 3:30 doesn't provide what a home should. My goal is to help create the learning opportunities that these amazing students deserve and not let the poverty mindset prevent my students from reaching their potential.

My Project

Reading is an important part of my classroom experience. Studies have shown that time spent reading is valuable to a students' learning outcomes.

My kids have used their voice to share with me what books they would like to see on my shelves, and this list is representative of what they've told me.

I have a very small classroom library that I am trying to grow through Donors Choose. The closer I can get books to students, the higher their access (and therefore likelihood to read) to books will be.
