Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our awesome middle schoolers at MMS (Houston, TX) are more than deserving and in dire need of basic athletics equipment for safety, basic first aid and equitable access to participation. With proper hydration materials, an operable ice machine for general first aid, as well as additional equipment, our students are sure to grow and participate at the level of grade-level peers at other campuses citywide.

Located in the historic 5th Ward neighborhood of Houston, TX, McReynolds is full of rich tradition, yet lacks basic necessities to help our student-athlete population of families that is more than 90% of students are Black, Latino, and/or Native American, and nearly 90% come from low-income households.

Our goal is to make sure our students receive the equitable resources and support required for athletic skill development and building healthy lifestyles to foster lifelong physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

These wonderful, energetic and well-deserving students, who at no fault of their own, have not been afforded the resources and opportunities that many public-school peers in Houston receive. Every day they show up with their best efforts and make the best of what they are provided here on campus, which sadly just isn't enough to meet their needs. Every bit helps and counts, thank you for your help, Go Bears!
